One Token

An experimental artwork and performative critique of ICO culture during the blockchain boom. One T oken featured a custom smart contract generating a single indivisible ERC20 token, auctioned as a symbolic gesture. The project distills capital formation into a singular act, transforming speculative financial systems into a commentary on exclusivity and utility.

What happens if we reduce a currency to a circulating volume of exactly one? No longer a medium of exchange, we arrive at something else: an object defined by exclusivity rather than shared utility.

On October 27th, during the operating hours of Ethereal San Francisco, the Single Token “ICO” will be open for donation at the following contract address:

An artwork that predated NFT’s, One Token was an initial and final coin offering, the single available token passed to the highest bidder at 6pm, when the donation period closed. Donations from the same wallet address were additive, with the current highest bid displayed at the top of the leaderboard.

All donations were non-refundable, with 100% of proceeds contributed toward Puerto Rican hurricane relief.
